Been waiting for a while to do this bike of Brandons. I saw it when he first picked the scoot up, and when he showed up at the ”Back Road Boogie” camp out with the new look, I knew I wanted to document it in this version. I’m really happy with the pics, even though Brandon being a really great photographer probably would have done better! I hope you guys like this fun little Sporty…here’s what Brando had to say about it.
“The bike is a 1968 Harley Davidson XLCH more commonly known as a Sportster or specifically an Ironhead Sportster. I got the bike off an old timer who had purchased it from the original owner and then essentially had it rebuilt and thrown into a garage under a tarp. He had extended the front end by six inches and had a two-tone blue mustang tank with duals caps, no sissy bar, a front fender that matched the tank and a bunch of other semi-stock features, like the chain guard and speedo/tachometer gauges and such.
After a year of riding this thing pretty much every day, I’ve stripped her down and applied some of my own style. First things first, was the tank, a Sportster needs a Sportster tank, so I tracked down that ‘72 tank, it needed and acid cleaning and resealing but it’s as good as new now, with the perfect “PAH TEE NAH” and original paint. I put some stock sportster pull backs in place of the t-bar that was originally there, but with some unique placement for the sake of comfort and style. I brought the front end back down to stock and threw some fork gators on the tubes, the last thing I added was the sissy bar, which I believe is just a Drag Specialties shorty bar.”
