Starting out as a youngster on dirt bikes in the Sonoran desert and hearing stories from and about his Pops, a Tucson chopper pioneer, it was only natural for Ian McLane to start a bike project at 15yrs old. Local Craig’s List provided a basket case XS650 and two jacked up Harley Springers. In no time, the father and son team had a roller. That was basically where the project stalled out when highshcool shenanigans and a ’77 Plymouth Volare took priority, and the XS was put on the back burner. For the next five or so years the roller sat idle, until the idea of a two wheeled voyage to BornFree7 re-kindled the flame of the XS. In just over a month, the Thursday before the show, the project was complete enough for a shake down run to Picacho. Passing the test, the machine proved road worthy and the next day, they were California bound. Ian and his first build triumphantly conquered both grueling desert and city, to the motorcycle mecca that is Born Free and back home with minimal issues. Ever since, you can find the team buzzing around Tucson and beyond as Ian’s “daily”.
