Tucson, Arizona – Happy New Year! I’m very pleased to bring Dennis Johnson’s freshly rebuilt 42 to y’all as the first bike feature of 2016. I got a change to hook up with Dennis and his Dead Horse at the historic Rillito Racetrack in Tucson on an uncommonly stormy winter day. I think I got some pretty cool pictures of a really cool bike, owned and built by a super nice guy, enjoy!
I started out with $1500 that I somehow saved. I told Jimmy I wanted a springer for the panhead I had. He said he knew of a knucklehead with a springer on it, for what I thought was an almost attainable price. SO, I checked it out and I knew I had to have it – sold the pan and the rest is history. After a while I had the bike running, re-did a few things and set off for born free 6. After that trip the bike was in need of a complete overhaul. I met a guy Carl V-twin out in picture rocks, initially to do the engine work, but he ended up helping with much more than that. He helped me build this bike into what it is today.
